Tokyo — IBCS to increase its SAP consultant staff by 200 and provide server version specifically for SAP solutions
SAP Japan, IBM Japan, and IBM Business Consulting Services announced today that the companies will further strengthen their partnership, in order to support business reforms, centered on ERP installation, by their customers. In specific terms, with support for skills training from SAP, IBCS will increase its SAP consultant staff by about 200 this year, and provide a version of the IBM business server, IBM System i5, specifically for SAP solutions. In addition, SAP and IBM will pursue joint business activities by utilizing Value Engineering, a service that suggests solutions in line with business objectives by clarify the merits to customers of installing SAP solutions, by quantifying SAP’s direct effect on IT investment by businesses (business value).
Specific details of the partnership are as follows.
1. IBCS will increase its SAP consultant staff by about 200, with skills training support from SAP
To support business reforms, centered on ERP installation, by customers, skills training projects proposed by SAP will be shared with IBCS, and through the acquisition of 400 SAP accreditations, IBCS will increase its SAP consultant staff by about 200 by the end of 2006. In order to provide customers with integrated know-how and skills concerning the business processes and IT architecture, common to all businesses, that are essential for installing SAP solutions, these consultants will be assigned to the Value Delivery Center established by IBCS in July 2005, increasing its total workforce to about 550.
2. Version of the IBM business server, IBM System i5, specifically for SAP solutions
IBM System i5 Solution Edition for mySAP ERP, a version of the IBM business server IBM System i5, will be provided for customers installing mySAP ERP. To promote the installation of SAP solutions, this version is priced 40-50% lower than the standard version. In addition, the two companies will start joint product development and verification for IBM middleware. Already, IBM’s database management software, DB2 version 8.2.2, has been given autonomic computing capability in the form of a SAP tuner that integrates SAP solutions and DB2.
3. Joint business activities that clarify the merits to customers of installing SAP products by utilizing Value Engineering
Using the VE service provided by SAP Japan’s Value Engineering Division, the two companies will pursue joint business activities that analyze and clarify the merits to customers of installing SAP products. In specific terms, the installation of SAP products will be proposed after suggesting improvements, and direct effects on business (business value) has been quantified in the form of higher business efficiency, smaller inventory, lower costs, quicker settlement, and internal control.
By strengthening their partnership in this way, the three companies will support innovation by customers through flexible, speedy business reforms resulting from ERP installation. In addition, SAP Japan will utilize the partnership as a key means of accelerating the expansion of SAP solutions to all sectors, including finance, public services, and retail. Meanwhile, IBM Japan and IBCS will further promote efficient service businesses based on solutions in the form of packages and assets.
