Tokyo — Effective today, SAP Japan Co., Ltd. is to start providing SAP Test Data Migration Server (SAP TDMS), a software tool that reduces maintenance costs for hardware other than that used to run SAP ERP systems. SAP TDMS enables the configuration of system environments based on consistent, streamlined data sets, by extracting data from live hardware during construction of other system environments, such as customers’ development, testing, and quality hardware. This enables reduction of system management costs for development, testing, and training after installation of a SAP system, as well as improvement in quality.
As SAP systems have become more extensive and complex, the construction of testing and other non-live systems, and the complexity of upgrades, have become issues. Consequently, there is a need to construct test environments that have consistent data sets, while reducing the volume of data from ERP systems. Moreover, as it is said that most system problems are caused by deficiencies in applications, customers increasingly need to prioritize the testing process during system development.
The data used for tests must be consistent in terms of business processes, up-to-date, and appropriately sized. SAP TDMS enables the necessary data only, among the large amount of data on live hardware, to be copied in a format that ensures consistency during configuration of system environment. Because this shortens testing lead time, it can substantially improve development efficiency. In addition, tests utilizing the latest data used in actual work can help to improve the stability of live systems. SAP TDMS also enables users of systems with large data volume to save test space and reduce hardware costs.
The data masking capability of SAP TDMS also helps to prevent leakage of confidential information regarding employees and customers during the test process.
Systems supported by TDMS2005
TDMS2005 supports SAP R/3 4.6C, 4.7 (110/200), and mySAP ERP 2004. Support includes all applications of standard R/3 systems. Customers’ add-on tables can also be supported within projects.
