DOHA, Qatar — Qatar University (QU) yesterday became the first university in the country to join the SAP University Alliance program (UAP) in an agreement with global business software leader SAP. The initiative provides faculty members from the College of Business & Economics (CBE) with the tools and resources needed to teach students how technology can help enable integrated business processes and strategic thinking – and gives graduates the skills needed to add immediate value to the Qatari market. The agreement sees Qatar University become the 17th educational institute in the Middle East to sign-up to the SAP University Alliance program and join 1,000 tertiary institutions and around 150,000 students from around the world who are already learning SAP solutions.
“The vision of Qatar University is to be the model national university in the region, recognized for high-quality education and research and for being a leader of economic and social development. One key enabler of this vision is technology, and by joining the successful SAP University Alliance Program we will provide our students with the skills needed to become leaders in the field of informatics,” said Qatar University President Prof Sheikha Abdulla Al-Misnad.The College of Business and Economics is QU’s second largest. All its programs (undergraduate, MBA, and Master of Accounting) are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the most prestigious accrediting agency in the world. Part of the mission of the college is “to connect theory to practice”. Thus, this agreement will allow the college to fulfill part of its mission by providing an opportunity for CBE students to have “hands-on” experience with a real-world ERP system, such as SAP. In addition, it will provide faculty members with the training needed to allow them to teach SAP modules in selected classes.
University Alliances member schools gain access to the SAP Business Suite family of solutions, including SAP ERP. The comprehensive business software suite supports business, engineering and information technology programs, enabling students to put classroom theory into practice through demonstrations, exercise and problem solving, case studies, and research programs.“Qatar is recognized internationally for its developing, and thriving knowledge economy, and SAP is dedicated to generating a base of highly-skilled workers capable of building an IT infrastructure to support this rapidly growing market. Students from Qatar University will have the tools needed to support the technology sector in the country through the skills learnt from the University Alliance Program,” said Gergi Abboud, Country Manager, SAP Qatar & Kuwait.
