SAP Hosts ‘Smart Sultanate’ Innovation Session in Cooperation with ITA

In line with Digital Oman Strategy, Public-Private Partnerships Transform Healthcare, Education, and Government Sectors

MUSCAT, OmanIn line with the ITA’s Digital Oman Strategy and the eOman e-Governance initiative to transform the Sultanate into a digital society by 2020. SAP, in cooperation with ITA, hosted the recent event “Government Modernization through Innovation”.

The event focused on sharing SAP’s 40 years of public services expertise with Omani government to drive innovation through digital technology for deeper policy insight and service delivery excellence to enable ITA address Omani citizens’ economic and social needs while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

SAP demonstrated successful examples of customers’ Innovations in the public sector both locally and globally to help Omani agencies, employees and citizens to quickly tackle issues from government administration, education, healthcare to revenue collection management and public safety and security.

SAP’s Smart Government experts delivered best practices on how organizations can leverage mobility, cloud, Big Data, and social media to transform citizen services in the emerging Internet of Things era.

“In line with our goals for leading digitization in Oman, this Smart Sultanate session will help enable Oman’s public and private leaders to partner on simplifying government processes, encouraging transparency, and delivering best practices in good governance and citizen services,” said Hassan Fida Hussain Al Lawati, Director of Industry Development, Digital Society Development Division, Oman ITA.

Demonstrating Oman’s growing ICT sector, the Sultanate ranked 5th in the Middle East and Africa and jumped nine places to 52nd worldwide in the International Telecommunications Union’s most recent ICT Development Index, which ranks countries’ performance in ICT infrastructure, usage, and skills

“To advance Oman’s digital society agenda, Oman’s visionary leaders need to forge public-private partnerships to support technology innovation especially in healthcare, education, and government services, while enhancing citizen-services, and help people acquire ICT skills,” said Rami Amkieh, Oman Country Manager, SAP MENA.

With Oman’s government use of ICT enhancing education, healthcare, job creation, and tourism, Oman ranked 5th in the Arab World and 48th worldwide in the United Nations Global eGovernment Survey 2014.

This event furthered the partnership between SAP and Oman ITA on the Young Professionals Program, which provides young, unemployed university graduates with technology skills, which launched in 2013.
