SAP Declares Definitive Leadership in Retail Industry; Announces Safe Passage Program for Retek Customers

New Customer Wins Highlight Momentum Across All Retail Segments

Chicago, Ill.In a move further establishing its leadership and vision for the retail industry, SAP America, Inc., a subsidiary of SAP AG (NYSE: SAP), today announced that it is extending its Safe Passage program of SAP® applications, technology and support in a special offer for companies running Retek software. The new offering from SAP provides “safe passage” to retailers facing the uncertainties arising from the acquisition of Retek by Oracle Corporation and challenges companies may face over the next several years. The announcement was made at the Retail Systems Conference and Exposition being held in Chicago, Illinois, May 24 – 26, where SAP also announced Wickes Furniture (see today’s press release titled, “Wickes Furniture to Drive Retail Growth with SAP”) as the latest significant win in a string of new retail customer relationships that include Fossil, The Home Depot, Limited Brands, Inc., Oreck and Wawa.

Retail Safe Passage Program Provides Investment Protection

Designed to address Retek customers’ concerns over the future road map of their solutions under Oracle, the retail Safe Passage program provides Retek customers not only protection for their past investments but also a secure migration path to service-enabled applications based on the SAP NetWeaver™ platform. As the world’s leading provider of business software solutions and a recognized retail industry leader, SAP offers customers the security of a technology partner with a clearly defined blueprint for migration to a service-oriented architecture (SOA) and the ability to deliver the next generation of retail solutions.

Under the retail Safe Passage program designed specifically for Retek customers, SAP is offering qualified retailers:

  • a credit of up to 75 percent of their original Retek software licensing fees against the licensing of solutions within the SAP for Retail industry solution portfolio
  • an on-site business case benefits assessment of migrating from Retek to SAP, delivered by SAP or one of its retail industry partners
  • a fixed-bid, modular-based, proven implementation strategy approach following the assessment
  • project team training for new customers*

Through the program, retailers running Retek applications will be able to have access to the SAP NetWeaver platform, allowing them to leverage existing IT investments in an integrated solution landscape, enabling flexible business processes across the entire company. By leveraging SAP NetWeaver, retailers can limit the complexity of IT while driving innovation, reducing costs and pursuing flexible business strategies and processes to position their businesses for future growth.
