In a recent interview with SAP CEO Henning Kagermann, a reporter inquired as to the company’s position on merger and acquisition offers to SAP. In the interview, Kagermann was asked if he would listen to offers from other companies, including, hypothetically, from Oracle. His response was that, as CEO, he must be open to any and all offers as part of his fiduciary responsibility to SAP shareholders. To infer anything from this out-of-context, hypothetical media question is inappropriate. To clarify, SAP has issued the following statement: SAP is not in merger talks with Oracle, and there is absolutely no substance to this situation other than media speculation.
