Sharp’s corporate vision is to be an eco-positive company: a company whose contributions to the environment far outweigh the impact of its business activities on the environment. To achieve this, it has developed an eco-positive strategy with four focus areas: technologies, products, operations, and relationships.
This strategy is also a response to the increasingly stringent regulations on chemical management worldwide. Some of the strictest regulations are in the EU. Following the enactment of the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive, which prohibits the use of lead, mercury, and other substances in electronics, the EU introduced regulations in 2007 on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH).
