Singapore — Public-listed SNP Corporation Ltd. (SNP), one of Singapore’s leading media groups, announced today that it has partnered IT leaders SAP and eBworX to implement mySAP.com Retail solution. mySAP.com Retail, SAP’s industry solution provides the e-business platform and a suite of Retail applications to support SNP’s recently announced click-and-mortar business model. This integrated e-business platform will enable SNP to effectively manage their publishing and printing operations as well as their retail outlets, which include cyber bookstore, myepb.com, and their newly opened myepb megastore. Implementation for the project will be done by e-Business integrator, eBworx.
With the support of an integrated infrastructure and applications, SNP will be able to analyse and identify consumer preferences and back this up with fulfilment and delivery capabilities. mySAP.com Retail affords SNP the means to improve their value chain by streamlining logistics to sharpen execution excellence in the distribution channels for their publishing and printing businesses. Using SAP’s AcceleratedSAP methodology for rapid implementation, eBworx will enable SNP to get a faster return on their investment. The first phase saw the completion of the mySAP.com modules from financial to sales and distribution, materials management and industry-specific retail modules with integration to the myepb web-front. This was implemented in a quick timeframe of three months.
Said SNP’s President & CEO, Yeo Chee Tong, “Driving growth in the new economy requires media players and retailers to leverage technology to serve their customers through multiple channels at the highest service level. Our investment in mySAP.com Retail is a strategic initiative for us as this solution fits hand in glove with our click-and-mortar strategy. I am pleased that we are working with strong partners like eBworx and SAP to see us through this strategic project.”
SNP has, over the past few years, evolved in its original role as Government printer to become one of Singapore’s leading media houses. The company’s adoption of a click-and-mortar strategy for the expansion of its core publishing business saw the launch of on-line bookstore, myepb.com, late last year as a first initiative under this strategy. SNP has since augmented myepb’s cyber presence with a physical retail outlet, which was officially opened at Suntec City earlier this month. SNP plans to open five to six more myepb bookstores in Singapore over the next two years, and is also planning to expand its bookstore chain into Malaysia in the near future.
“Companies need to look beyond the dot com hype and develop a proven, robust business model that uses both online as well as traditional brick and mortar strategies. I congratulate SNP for their vision in transforming their business to create value through technology. I am pleased that SAP is working with SNP and its implementation partner, eBworx, to turn SNP’s vision to reality. Through mySAP.com Retail, SNP will be able to create a flexible and responsive organisation around their click-and-mortar business strategy,” said Terence Chan, SAP’s Executive Vice President and Managing Director for Singapore.
eBworx has completed phase I of the implementation with an e-speed delivery timeframe of three months. This bears testimony to their commitment to the rapid implementation of solutions in the e-marketplace. “SNP is engaging in an aggressive business strategy that encompasses both e-commerce as well as retail, and eBworx is pleased to be instrumental in helping them achieve a complete value chain,” said Steven Tan, CEO, eBworx.

SNP Corporation Ltd
SNP Corporation Ltd (SNP) was incorporated in 1973. It took on the role of government printer and has been operating on a competitive commercial basis since then. In a bid to augment its existing core competency, the SGX mainboard-listed company extended its reach to include e-commerce and creative communication in addition to its core businesses of printing and publishing. In March this year, Singapore Technologies announced its acquisition of a 72.6% majority stake in SNP, effectively making them a key component of the Singapore Technologies’ e-business division.
Currently, SNP has eleven principal subsidiaries, eight of which are located in Singapore while the other three are based in Malaysia, Australia and Thailand. It has also established five associated companies in Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand and Mauritius.
SNP ventured into the world of e-commerce in late 1999 with the launch of an on-line book retailing portal, myepb.com. Mr. Yeo Chee Tong, President and CEO of SNP, aims for this bilingual cyber-bookstore to become the Amazon.com of Asia by leveraging upon EPB’s trusted name in the local education scene and its established distribution networks to build it into a full-range leading Internet book retailer. The extensive better-value offerings at myepb.com include fiction and non-fiction titles, professional and special interest books, as well as multimedia products among others.
On June 3rd this year, SNP celebrated a complete manifestation of their click-and-mortar business model with both the official opening of myepb’s 23,000 square-foot flagship bookstore at Suntec City and the launch of myepb.com’s revamped website, which now features an array of value-added interactive community services such as discussion boards and on-line auctions.
