Larsen & Toubro Limited, the first customer in India goes live on mySAP Product Life Cycle Management

Mumbai , IndiaLarsen & Toubro Limited, Electrical and Electronics Division (L&T–EBG) today announced the successful “Go-live” of their mySAP Product Life Cycle Management (mySAP PLM) implementation. L&T-EBG is the first SAP customer in India to implement mySAP PLM. This initiative from L&T–EBG integrates CAD applications like Pro-E and AutoCAD to the core SAP ERP applications. The scope covered in this project was Lifecycle Data Management, which includes CAD integration, Engineering Work Bench, Digital Mock-Up and improvement of Engineering Change Management (ECM) Processes with Workflows. The mySAP PLM software components currently implemented in this project include the SAP CAD Desktop and SAP K-Pro with the Conversion Server attached, using the viewers provided by SAP.

Mr. R. N. Mukhija, Member of the Board and Sr. Vice President (Operations) of Larsen & Toubro Limited, said, “L&T has always been a quick adapter of fast changing, globally available technology which helps our business processes to improve. Like on this occasion, we have often been the first to implement the latest technology. With mySAP PLM, we expect to enhance the level of Concurrent Engineering in Product Design and Development, and introduce New Products faster.” SAP’s PLM was selected over other competing products by the Design Engineers for the depth of its functionality, its capability, integration to ERP (SAP R/3) and its performance is richer than that of any other competing product available at present.

Mr. Alan Sedghi, President & Managing Director, SAP India added, “with the implementation of my SAP PLM, L&T-EBG has achieved the integration of their design and engineering functions with their core business processes. mySAP PLM can handle 400+ components with 3500 features assembly check-in for a complex Switchgear Product in a matter of minutes at L&T–EBG, which many of our competitors failed to demonstrate.” The mySAP Product Life Cycle Management solution from SAP enables CAD integration of Design & Engineering to other core functions in an organization like Materials, Procurement, Production, Finance, Costing, Project Systems, Marketing, etc. into one system of SAP, which in any Engineering or Automotive organization normally tend to work as islands. The salient features of the implementation are:

  • As an internal process, it used to take anywhere between 3-4 days to get
the latest version of document files across the multiple departments of L&T-EBG,
but now with mySAP PLM, it would be available on-line.
  • Power of Digital Mock-Up (DMU) which enables the Design & Production
Engineers to view the Product Structures and “Assemble and Dis-assemble”
components from the assembly on the fly, will increase the productivity of
their Engineers and Designers leading to faster and error-free delivery of
    the re-designed products.
  • “Redlining” of drawings which enables authorised users to send
their remarks on design features to the designers.
  • All these features do not require expensive CAD workstations, but can be
    done on standard PC’s.
