SAP Attracts Top Talent from the Ranks of Chief Rivals

SAP’s Market Share Momentum Is Mirrored in Employment Sector as Silicon Valley Executives Leave Competitors for Roles at SAP

Palo Alto, Calif.SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced it has attracted the talents of senior executives formerly employed by competitors, including Oracle, PeopleSoft, Siebel Systems and BEA Systems. These recent new hires reflect a dramatic shift in the movement of talent in Silicon Valley, as many of the region’s brightest technology professionals have joined SAP, the enterprise software market leader. In total, more than 200 employees over the past 18 months have come to SAP from competitive organizations in positions spanning all levels of the organization, from senior executive roles to sales, development and solution experts.

Among these new SAP employees are key development and marketing executives that have joined the Product & Technology Group (PTG), managed by Shai Agassi, PTG president and member of the Executive Board, SAP AG. Nine of these recent placements include:

Richard Campione, Senior Vice President, Industry Solutions Marketing

In his new role, Richard is responsible for Industry Solution Marketing with a focus on enabling revenue growth by providing a consolidated view of the market for SAP in the form of Marketing Requirement Documents and by packaging and positioning SAP solutions across all industries. Richard joins SAP from Siebel Systems. As group vice president & general manager, Financial Services & Public Sector business at Siebel Systems, Richard grew the business 27 percent in 2004. Previously, Richard was the vice president and general manager of the Communications, Media and Energy business—which he grew to be 38 percent of Siebel’s business—and the group vice president of the Worldwide Sales Consulting organization.

Mike Mayer, Vice President, IDA Project Development

In his new role, Mike will be responsible for driving information technology infrastructure projects through International Development Associations (IDAs), such as the World Bank, concentrating on emerging markets. IDAs provide the world’s developing countries with necessary financing through loans and grants for programs aimed at boosting economic growth and improving living conditions. Mike joins SAP after 10 years with Oracle. As senior director, International Projects at Oracle, Mike was responsible for sales of projects funded by International Funding Agencies such as the World Bank, Asia Development Bank and the European Union. Mike focused on East Central Europe, Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Africa. He was also involved in the development of a number of large government budget and expenditure management systems.

Nimish Mehta, Senior Vice President, Enterprise Information Management

In his new role, Nimish is responsible for SAP’s Enterprise Information strategy and products, including both structured and unstructured data. Nimish joins SAP from Siebel Systems. As group vice president, Customer Data Integration at Siebel Systems, Nimish was hired to lead Siebel’s highest-growth division. In this role, Nimish grew revenue from $10,000 to $70 million in 18 months. Previously, Nimish spent more than 10 years at Oracle. As senior vice president at Oracle, reporting directly to the CEO, he was a member of the product management committee and was involved in corporate product decisions. At Oracle, Nimish was chosen to create an all-new product division to develop and market vertical industry applications in pharmaceuticals, energy, government/higher education, consumer products and MRO.

Doug Merritt, Executive Vice President and General Manager for Suite Optimization and Program Office

Doug is responsible for leading both the Suite Transformation Office and the Program Office. The focus of the Suite Transformation Office is delivering significant differentiation for mySAP™ Business Suite by providing product enhancements that focus on improved homogenization, simplification and meaningfully lower total cost of ownership across SAP’s applications and industries. The focus of the Program Office is providing innovative, adaptive and automated product portfolio management and product life-cycle services, both within SAP and extended to SAP customers and partners. Doug joins SAP from Quest Software. Prior to Quest, Doug served as vice president/general manager of Human Capital Management (HCM) at PeopleSoft, where he directly managed all development, marketing and customer support for this $1 billion dollar product division. PeopleSoft was the pioneer in the online human capital management category.

George Paolini, Executive Vice President, Platform Ecosystem Development

George is responsible for driving the expansion of the SAP NetWeaver™ Partner Ecosystem. In his new role, George will support the large SAP NetWeaver community in taking advantage of business opportunities emerging around the software platform and adding to its capabilities. Paolini joins SAP from Borland, where he served as vice president and general manager. Prior to Borland, Paolini launched and directed a partner ecosystem initiative at Sun Microsystems, where he was credited with turning Java into the world’s largest third-party developer community.

Dan Rosenberg, Senior Vice President, User Experience, Product & Technology Group

In his new role, Dan will be responsible for the user experience for all SAP products. This will include application user interfaces as well as SAP NetWeaver design time and platform administration user interfaces. Dan’s centralized team’s scope will include ownership of the SAP User Interface (UI) standards as well as user research to both define requirements and measure productivity. Dan joins SAP after more than 10 years with Oracle. As vice president R&D, Usability/UI Design at Oracle, Dan was responsible for interaction design, corporate look and feel standards and usability evaluation for all Oracle product lines, ranging from database and development tools to applications. Dan started Oracle’s user experience program in 1994 from scratch and grew it into one of the premier corporate UI organizations in the world. Dan is a recognized industry authority on usability, UI design and human factors.

Gordon Simpson, Vice President, Applied Technology, Product and Technology Group

In his new role, Gordon will oversee platform architecture leadership. Gordon will work with customer, partner and engineering architects to ensure that Enterprise Service Architecture (ESA)/Business Process Platform (BPP) delivers its maximum business potential. Simpson joins SAP from BEA Systems. As deputy chief technology officer at BEA Systems, Simpson was the defacto CTO for the integration division, which was a critical factor in the 10-fold increase in integration business in a two-year time frame, establishing WebLogic Integration as a leading integration platform choice. Previously, Simpson served as principal application architect at Vitria Technology, where he played a pivotal role in successful sales growth, starting with the company’s second customer and including multimillion dollar sales and deployments with BP, Bell South, Kemper Insurance and American Century.

Bob Stutz, Senior Vice President, Product and Technology Group

In his new role, Bob will lead Strategic Application Development as SVP reporting to Peter Kirschbauer, general manager SAP Applications. Bob joins SAP from Siebel Systems. At Siebel, Bob had overall responsibility for the 21 vertical product lines as well as base horizontal products. Bob played a key role in taking verticals from a $10 million- to an $800 million-a-year business in four years. In addition, Bob had overall responsibility for the analysis, design, coding and testing of new software, enhancements and corrections to existing software.

John Zepecki, Vice President of Products, SAP xApps™

In his new role, John has responsibility for SAP xApps solution and development management and supporting SAP’s composite application initiatives. John joins SAP from PeopleSoft. As vice president of development, Enterprise Performance Management at PeopleSoft, John was responsible for the Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) product line and Financial Management Portal solutions. John had ownership of the entire product life cycle of EPM products, including new development, sustaining engineering and managing multiple release cycles with established and emerging products. John successfully delivered the conversion of JD Edwards BI products into the EPM platform as part of the company’s merger integration project, allowing cross-sell and up-sell of analytic applications into the JD Edwards installed base.
