500 Students Competed on Simulation Game Presented by SAP, Monsoon Academy and SIM University
SINGAPORE — Team Pangeran” from Prasetiya Mulya Business School in Jakarta, Indonesia won the inaugural Enterprise Resource Management (ERM) Challenge, South-East Asia’s first inter-university competition on enterprise resource management, with total prize money of S$8,000 at the grand final on Saturday, May 9.
Co-organized by Monsoon Academy, SIM University and SAP, the ERM Challenge 2015 attracted more than 500 students from 20 universities across South-East Asia to compete in play-off rounds from January through April on MonsoonSIM, a cloud-based business simulation platform and the first of its kind to teach complex business concepts through an experiential, evolving game. Monsoon Academy developed the game in partnership with SAP, while SIM University hosted ERM Challenge 2015 through its School of Science and Technology, in a joint effort to promote enterprise technology education in Asia Pacific.
During the grand final, six teams from Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia competed for the highest virtual company profit and best strategy presentation in front of a judging panel. The finalists also played against an out-of-competition SAP team of executives and millennials, giving students an opportunity to “beat SAP at its own game.” The judges included: Manik Narayan Saha, Chief Information Officer, SAP Asia Pacific Japan (APJ); Ronald Poon, Chief Commercial Officer, Certis Cisco; and Glen Francis, President, Ideation Edge Asia.
The winning team, “Team Pangeran,” consisted of Michael Laurensius Massey, Eric Christian, Calvin Lim, Richard Kuncara and Ignatius Egan Jonatan from Prasetiya Mulya Business School in Jakarta, Indonesia.
“We are thrilled that so many students have participated with such enthusiasm in the ERM Challenge,” said Manik Narayan Saha, Chief Information Officer, SAP APJ. “This is truly a new and fun approach to learning business and technology through gamification. We hope to inspire the millennial generation to think about the hyperconnectivity of business today and equip them with the skills and tools to make real-time decisions.”
Professor Cheong Hee Kiat, President, SIM University, said: “We would like to congratulate the winner and all participants for their great effort. This challenge is not just about competing. It is very much to do with learning about enterprise resource planning in a real-world setting. It inspires the students to apply this learning to grow their current and future companies.”
Abdy Taminsyah, President and Founder, Monsoon Academy, said: “It is amazing to look at all these young people come together discussing production capacity, cash-flow and logistics – even on weekends and after school hours. Learning ERP and business process is going to be fun from now on.”
Supported by SAP, the ERM Challenge 2015 was the first open student competition on enterprise resource planning in South-East Asia. This education campaign is part of SAP’s partnership with universities across Asia Pacific to provide SAP technology training and certification while more broadly promoting IT skills development and employability.
