YANGON SAP Southeast Asia (NYSE: SAP) today announced that City Mart Holdings (CMHL), a leading Myanmar company and icon of the country’s retail industry, has gone live with SAP S/4HANA to enhance its operational capabilities and streamline processes for real-time business decisions.

Homegrown brand embarks on digitization journey with SAP as it sets sights on further growth.

CMHL has come a long way since its first outlet launched in 1996. Over the past two decades, Daw Win Win Tint has built a nationwide retail business with over 200 stores, employing over 8500 people. CMHL operates various types of retail business, from supermarkets to pharmacies, bookstores, baby stores and food and beverage shops. With the expansion of the business, CMHL chose to replace its back-office systems in order to support the business for future growth and drive organizational efficiency.

“We chose to collaborate with SAP to help us drive greater transparency and productivity in our businesses and whilst it is early days we believe that it will increase business performance. We have just begun to implement the system but we are pleased that the technology has already helped us unlock efficiencies.” said Carl Crick, CMHL’s Chief Financial Officer.

SAP S/4HANA® is a software suite that helps organizations to run their core business processes digitally and in real time. Characterized by its simplicity and effectiveness, SAP S/4HANA® is an intelligent system   which automates processes and provides end users with active decision support in real time based on data from both internal and external sources.

In the first phase of implementation, CMHL has chosen to implement the SAP S/4HANA® Finance module which comprises SAP Accounting powered by S/4HANA®, SAP Cash Management powered by SAP S/4HANA®, Fiori Applications, Project Systems, Procurement for fix asset and Process Orchestration for Interfaces with the legacy systems “With SAP S/4HANA®, we aim to improve the way we manage our financial reporting with accurate real-time insights into our financial results. The solution will support us to centralize and consolidate our financial data, which will help our management make decisions faster and more accurately. This will be key to our strategy as we look to the future.” continued Carl.

“Digital transformation is simply the route that companies take towards leveraging data to change the way they compete and create value in the market. Especially for retail chain businesses, like CMHL, turning to digital solution makes business sense. By leveraging SAP S/4HANA, they can expect to increase productivity, improve inventory management, promote quality and effective human resources management, reduce material costs and expenses, and boost profits. Moreover, essential information can all be shared in real time. Business leaders who don’t seize this opportunity will see their business models and enterprise value erode and be left behind,” said Liher Urbizu, Managing Director of SAP Indochina.

“We now look forward to maintaining a long-term relationship with CMHL as we continue to provide value through S/4HANA® Finance implementation for City Express and City Property in the next phase,” he added.

Today, digital transformation is no longer a choice. It’s an essential driver of revenue, profit and growth. Many organizations are still in the orientation phase of digital transformation. As new technologies continue to emerge, companies must be proactive in establishing a defined path to digital implementation that includes all business areas and levels. With breakthrough technologies, investment in digital skills and a retrained workforce, companies investing in digital solutions will step far ahead.
