The new training programmes were chosen with reference to the recent research conducted by SAP across the six placement agencies appointed by Ministry of Manpower, with more than 1,300 job openings for SAP expertise. The areas with the highest demand for resources included 39% across Human Resources, 22% in Supply Chain Management, 13% with reference to Manufacturing/Production Planning, and 11% in Sourcing and Procurement.

Plugging Demand for Jobs in the Digital Economy

Companies are accelerating digital transformation to be agile in the cloud and adapt to evolving market requirements as economies rebound. Jobseekers participating in the SGUnited Mid-Career Pathways Programme – Company Training can stay current by applying their existing business experiences to SAP product knowledge and helping future employers maximise ROI from SAP applications. Companies can improve business processes and work more efficiently by learning how to implement and customise SAP solutions such as SAP S/4HANA and SAP SuccessFactors.

“Having weathered a challenging year, businesses are accelerating their digital plans to optimise their operations and entering a new stage of growth in the ‘never normal’. Fuelled by the rapid pivot of consumers and businesses to online offerings in the past year, the Supply Chain, e-Commerce, and Human Resources functions are emerging as key areas for digitisation and are in immediate need of tech-enabled talent. The SGUnited Mid-Career Pathways Programme, in its second year running with Temasek Polytechnic, extends SAP’s commitment towards upskilling and improving employability of jobseekers with critical digital-ready skills, to meet the emerging demand for skilled talent as Singapore strengthens its digital economy and future,” said Eileen Chua, Managing Director, SAP Singapore.

Mid-Career Professionals Embrace Skills Development

According to the World Economic Forum, 50% of employees will need reskilling by 2025. In the future of work, companies will increasingly focus on skills-based hiring and talent development. Taking the SAP courses will allow trainees to reskill and upskill for career opportunities within a global community of SAP customers and partners. As a market leader in enterprise application software, 94% of the world’s 500 largest companies are SAP customers and 99 of the 100 largest companies in the world use SAP S/4HANA.

Trainees will undergo a combination of instructor-led and self-paced training developed by SAP. The new courses are designed to meet the growing demand for critical digital skills in sectors accelerated by the pandemic. Once participants complete the course, they can take an examination to earn an industry-recognised SAP Professional Certification that will differentiate them from non-certified jobseekers. SAP offers trainees free access to the SAP Learning Hub for 12 months, and 60 hours of access to SAP learning systems, enabling them to apply what they learn in the course in a live, pre-configured SAP setting.

“Following a successful partnership with SAP this past year for the inaugural SGUnited Mid-Career Pathways Programme, we are excited to extend our collaboration with SAP in response to the growing talent demand in sectors such as supply chain as businesses gear up for growth. Through this programme, we aim to help mid-career professionals build on their current expertise, embrace new technologies and gain hands-on experience with relevant skillsets to capitalise on the changing workforce demands. With new technologies like AI and data analytics already being integral to business operations, training and competency in digital skillsets in focused industry areas are not only critical to increase employability for jobseekers, but also makes them well-placed to take on higher-skilled positions in their future job roles,” said Mr John Leong, Director, Temasek SkillsFuture Academy, Temasek Polytechnic.

More than 500 participants enrolled in Phase 1 of SGUnited Mid-Career Pathways Programme that is currently in session from January 2021 to April 30, 2022. SAP aims to attract 370 participants in Phase 2 across the following four courses:
