On July 9, SAP America, Inc., Sharks Sports & Entertainment, Inc., and the City of San Jose, CA announced that SAP is to acquire naming rights to the city’s 19,000-seat concert, special events, and sports venue. The facility nicknamed ‘Shark Tank’ is home to the U.S. National Hockey League San Jose Sharks (a team majority-owned by Hasso) and will be renamed SAP Center at San Jose. At an unveiling ceremony Tuesday, SAP co-founder and Executive Board Member Hasso Plattner, Co-CEO Bill McDermott, and CMO Jonathan Becher joined San Jose mayor Chuck Reed to announce the partnership and plans to implement cutting-edge technologies to enrich the fan experience.
Bicycles for underprivileged families
Officials also discussed the partnership’s benefits to the local community, among them a promise to dedicate proceeds from the five-year agreement to the charitable San Jose Sharks Foundation. Further demonstrating the partnership’s commitment to philanthropy, the ceremony concluded with hundreds of SAP employees participating alongside Sharks Foundation employees in a volunteer effort to assemble bicycles donated to underprivileged families in the community.
