New MD to head SAP UK, Hans-Peter Klaey takes top job in Asia

Martin Metcalf takes over UK MD position, maintaining consistency and stability

LondonSAP has appointed Martin Metcalf as its new UK & Ireland managing director. Hans-Peter Klaey, who has headed the company since January 2000, moves to head up SAP in Asia.

Hans-Peter’s successor, Martin Metcalf, is currently chief operating officer at SAP UK and has been a member of the management team for seven years.

During this time, the company grew from 40 people to over 700 with turnover increasing ten-fold. Martin’s first role was heading up the Alliance Programme. He was also a leading player in defining SAP’s Global Partner Programme and subsequently went on to develop SAP UK’s channel strategy.

Martin was promoted to sales director in December 1999 and worked with Hans-Peter over the last two years helping to transform SAP UK & Ireland into a successful, customer-focused organisation. He has over 18 years’ experience in the IT industry, with some of the most well-known names.

“I’m delighted by this appointment and grateful to Hans-Peter for all the hard work he’s put into this market. I’m sure we’ll all miss him, but we wish him well in Asia,” said Martin.

Hans-Peter will be taking up the newly created position of president, SAP Asia, which is comprised of Greater China, Korea, Asean (Association of South East Asian Nations) and India. He will be located in Singapore.

During his time in the UK, he was responsible for some outstanding business results: revenue up 77%; client numbers up 36%; number of installations almost doubling. In this time he also grew the UK operation to over
700 employees.

Hans-Peter was also instrumental in changing the sales model to embody the SAP Customer Engagement Lifecycle with a strong industry focus. He also built up and led a new management team with key roles inside the company and improved overall contribution and profitability.

Before joining SAP, Hans-Peter worked at DEC in Switzerland for eight years in a variety of management, marketing and sales roles.
