Trafford MBC Selects SAP for Integrated E-government Roll-out

£4m e-government deal part of the council’s drive to improve services for all citizens

LondonTrafford Metropolitan Borough Council has selected SAP as its strategic technology partner to deliver an integrated e-government solution as part of the council’s drive to improve services for all its citizens. In a deal worth over £4m, Trafford will implement a range of components including financials, procurement, works management, property management, CRM and both internal and external portals. The project plans to replace 12 separate legacy systems.

Trafford, which employs over 10,000 staff and serves more than 220,000 citizens, expects the efficiencies delivered by the solution will allow them to redirect resources into front line services while helping the council reach the government’s target that all local government services be available electronically by 2005.

The council evaluated a number of software solutions and selected SAP because of the comprehensive local authority functionality, the scale of integration particularly between CRM and the back-office and the advantageous cost of ownership which ensured the authority maintained Best Value. The solution, which is being implemented by SAP’s internal consulting arm, will be accessed in over 200 council locations.

“Trafford has an approach to delivering e-government which is both visionary and pragmatic. They realised some time ago that to deliver e-government successfully, the authority’s back-office and front-office functions had to be merged into a single office function. This project delivers this and when it is live, Trafford will lead the way in electronic service delivery,” said Steve Morgan, Local Government Team Leader for SAP UK.
