Retail Industry Principal Demonstrates Strategic Industry Focus
London — SAP has appointed Richard Mills as its Retail Industry Principal. Richard will be responsible for providing strategic direction for the SAP’s UK and Irish retail sales organisation, providing the bridge between business opportunities realised through technology investment and customer business growth and development.
Richard’s appointment endorses SAP’s commitment to its Retail business where recent customer wins include Burberry, Boots, Superquinn and Halfords.
“The retail industry is constantly changing and the demand for integrated technology solutions to support customers’ needs is critical,” explains Graham Kingsmill, Managing Director, SAP UK & Ireland. “Recruiting top talent such as Richard Mills supports our strategy and commitment to our customers to provide leading retail service solutions.”
‘SAP for Retail’ provides a set of comprehensive solutions designed specifically for retail where every piece of the retail value chain, from forecasting and planning to allocation and replenishment, must be focused on meeting and surpassing customer expectations.
Richard Mills commenting on the current market environment, explains, “Consumers have never been more in control. They have come to expect superb quality, selection, and service. They are perfectly willing to abandon any retailer that can’t deliver. In today’s market, there’s no margin for error.
“The way SAP addresses this is through software which allows retailers and wholesalers to shift their strategic focus from product to customer and completely re-engineer the way they manage inventory, leverage their workforce, and meet customer needs.”
Richard’s experience includes 20 years in and around the retail industry. He spent the first half of his career working in the grocery sector, initially as store manager, then working across store operations, supply chain, buying and merchandising for some of the largest retailers. Following this, Richard went on to spend the next 10 years working for JDA, retail software and consultancy. Here he worked with some of the retail industry’s largest global players spanning the Far East, USA, Asia and Europe. Following JDA, Richard further extended his experience working with major retail customers at SAP Consulting making him the idea candidate for his new role as SAP Industry Principal for the retail sales operation.
