HSBC to Streamline Global Bank and Corporate Communications on SAP
VIENNA, Austria — SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) and The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (LSE: HSBA) today announced that the HSBC Group (HSBC) will create a leading edge bank-client integration solution using the SAP NetWeaver® technology platform to streamline and automate the bank’s communications for the delivery of banking services to its corporate banking clients. The complexity of bulk payments creates security and operational risk issues for both banks and corporations. With SAP, HSBC will standardize corporate-to-bank integrations to greatly reduce the complexity and time needed to associate workflows between its clients. The announcement was made at Sibos, the world’s premier financial services event, being held in Vienna, Austria, Sept. 15-18.
Powered by SAP NetWeaver, HSBC’s new bank-client integration solution will enable corporate clients to link into HSBC’s worldwide banking network via a single entry point, simplifying communications for the bank’s corporate services such as account payables, account receivables and reconciliations. HSBC’s customers will gain easier access to their banking information. Additionally, the solution will provide better support for compliance initiatives, creates seamless integration of financial supply chains and drive efficient working capital management.

SAP NetWeaver simplifies HSBC’s delivery of bank services by communicating transactions using the ISO 20022 XML format. Each type of banking service offered typically requires one service gateway; in many cases, each gateway is a standalone application requiring individual resource overhead. Where interfaces exist for services, the integration is often far from seamless as files are manually exported, encrypted and uploaded in proprietary formats. This complex infrastructure is resource-intensive on both support and maintenance and inherently possesses security and operational risks.
SAP NetWeaver enables corporate connectivity by providing a standard interface between the corporate client’s office enterprise resource planning system and the bank’s back office. SAP NetWeaver® Process Integration integrates the bank’s back office systems for service delivery. As well as handling tasks such as extraction, workflow, reconciliation and simultaneous connections from different customers at the corporate site, SAP provides a shared operational process and unifies multiple service gateways between the corporate client and the bank. This creates a more robust and real-time workflow, which results in a multitude of advantages for the corporate client, including faster on-boarding and better control over liquidity. HSBC will also gain better support for compliance initiatives with automated transaction tracking providing a traceable audit trail.
