SAP NEWSBYTE — SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) will open up enterprise application management beyond SAP® solutions with the 7.1 release of SAP® Solution Manager, its premier application management solution. The first major update in more than four years will make the tool a one-stop shop for total application life-cycle management by offering control mechanisms for both SAP and non-SAP environments. The release will include new features benefitting all customers, and additional capabilities for customers using SAP® Enterprise Support services or other premium maintenance offerings from SAP.
SAP Solution Manager 7.1 will offer companies one management platform for their entire portfolio of SAP solutions, cutting through the complexities of a multi-vendor technology stack. Management tools for designing, graphical blueprinting, testing, configuring, deploying, monitoring and operating will integrate into the platform with oversight over SAP and non-SAP technologies. It will remove the need for customers to buy separate management tools native to that software while also better utilizing any pre-existing management tools, cementing interoperability and data integration throughout. The new user interface will be more intuitive, making SAP Solution Manager even easier to implement and operate.
This update of SAP Solution Manager will have a significant impact on SAP customers – close to 50 to 60 percent are currently running the application management solution in some capacity. It will significantly broaden what customers can now do with SAP Solution Manager and SAP solutions, delivering reduced costs and improved business efficiency across the enterprise. And by reducing operational costs in IT management, customers can free up the budget needed for new innovation across the enterprise.
“The release of SAP Solution Manager 7.1 is the ultimate in application life-cycle management,” said Uwe Hommel, executive vice president, SAP Active Global Support. “We listened to our customers and designed a preconfigured and powerful management tool that goes outside the SAP landscape, delivering value throughout the entire enterprise.”
SAP Solution Manager 7.1 will be available to select customers in the SAP® Ramp-Up program and previewed at the SAPPHIRE® NOW conference, being held in Orlando, Florida, May 15 – 18, 2011. It is planned for general availability in August 2011.
