SAP NEWSBYTE — SAP (UK) Limited (SAP) is pleased to announce that the UK’s leading made-to-measure blinds specialist, Hillarys Blinds Limited (Hillarys), has selected SAP and its partner AgilityWorks to develop a mobile field sales application built on SAP technology. The use of the SAP Unwired Platform (SUP) and Afaria will make it the first Android-native solution built on SAP’s mobile enterprise application platform in the UK.
Hillarys has forty years’ experience in selling, manufacturing and distributing made-to-measure blinds. The organisation has a field-based network of 1,000 sales consultants and as an innovative business, has been using mobile applications since 2005. Recent developments in the mobile device market left Hillarys with problems; its existing mobile solution is dependent on an obsolete device and operating system combination that inhibited the rapid development and deployment of innovative business-led functionality and emerging technology. Using the SAP Unwired Platform both issues can be resolved – bringing the security of device independence and provides a stable platform for breakthrough improvements.

Hillarys and the AgilityWorks’ Enterprise Mobility Solution Centre (eMSC) have embarked on the joint development of the new mobile solution. Whilst leveraging the core processes and capability of the original application, the solution will provide advanced resource planning capability that takes geographic constraints and product-specific advisor certifications into account. This then provides the basis for managing customer details and generating priced proposals for customer-specific made-to-measure product solutions.
The project will be deployed during 2012, with field trials starting in the second quarter. Future phases of development will focus on enhancing the customer experience of the sales consultation by offering the capability to ‘visualise’ the proposed solution, and to provide flexible tools to navigate product choices and options.
