SAP\u2019s donation will <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">contribute\u00a0to The Carbon Community\u2019s landmark carbon study\u00a0funding\u00a02,000 trees,\u00a0with a focus on supporting the advancement of scientific knowledge and new approaches to growing trees.\u00a0This\u00a0much-needed research and field study will\u00a0advance\u00a0knowledge on\u00a0the most efficient ways to remove\u00a0carbon dioxide from the atmosphere\u00a0using\u00a0trees and soil.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The\u00a0donation will also help plant the first 500 trees as part of\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sap.com\/uk\/2020\/12\/sap-uk-partners-with-the-carbon-community-for-new-sustainability-initiative-sap-forest-uk\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">SAP Forest UK<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, found in The Glandwr Forest in the Brecon Beacons, Wales.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Previous\u00a0carbon accounting schemes have primarily\u00a0researched\u00a0the opportunities to capture carbon in trees,\u00a0however,\u00a0this investigation\u00a0rooted in science, will also focus on how to maximise carbon stored in the\u00a0soil,\u00a0considering\u00a0the role of biodiversity, as it is believed 75% of carbon is below the ground.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-contrast=\"none\">Dr.\u00a0Colin Averill, ETH Zurich Crowther Lab, said:<\/span><\/strong><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0\u201cThis is an important world-first field trial which will measure the carbon sequestered in trees and soil on a scope and scale not seen before.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201cCombining\u202ftwo nature-based treatments, soil microbiome inoculation and enhanced rock weathering, to understand their ability to accelerate and enhance forest carbon sequestration is truly\u00a0unique, and\u00a0is one example of how The Carbon Community is pushing the frontiers of nature-based climate solutions.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In addition,\u00a0SAP is\u00a0aiming to\u00a0further\u00a0educate\u00a0those who are interested in\u00a0sustainability\u00a0with the\u00a0launch\u00a0its\u00a0new\u00a0Circular\u00a0Economy\u00a0course, Helping Business Thrive in a Circular Economy,\u00a0which is available to all\u00a0and launches in October 2021.\u00a0The\u00a0five-week online course, with\u00a0four\u00a0hours of content per week including weekly assignments and a final exam, is completely free and will showcase how circular business practices create value and\u00a0can help us tackle the current problems\u00a0that\u00a0the planet, people, and modern businesses are facing.
