Rural Revitalization: China’s New Strategy to Lift Millions Out of Poverty with the Help of Tech

China aims to end extreme poverty by sparking a digital agricultural transformation and upskilling its rural population in sustainable farming practices.

To support this “rural renaissance” and encourage the reverse migration of young talent from their home villages to big cities, SAP launched a new initiative that provides training and mentorship to agricultural entrepreneurs. Digital farming techniques and broader technology use will lift millions out of poverty and drive more sustainable land use. The project is a partnership between SAP, YouChange Foundation, China Charity Alliance, and Tsinghua University.
