Wherever we operate, we aim to create a positive economic, environmental, and social impact, because we believe that we have a responsibility to drive change, not just within our own organisation, but across society.
The spirit of reconciliation aligns to SAP’s purpose of helping the world run better and improving people’s lives. As a company with a clear vision and values, and a focus on inclusion and allyship – reconciliation is important to our people.
As such, we support the spirit and intent of the historic Uluru Statement from the Heart.
We believe that First Nations peoples should be formally recognised in the Australian constitution, and we believe that by accepting, understanding, and embracing our Indigenous history, we are helping to create a more united and equitable country for the generations to come.
SAP is supportive of Indigenous constitutional recognition through a constitutionally guaranteed First Nations voice.
In 2022, SAP committed to a Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), which is a formal statement of commitment to reconciliation, underpinned by key themes of Relationships, Respect, and Opportunities. Our statement in support of constitutional reform is a continuation of this commitment to the reconciliation journey.
We believe that Australia’s First Nations peoples should be formally recognised in our national Constitution and as a nation we should accept and embrace our rich Indigenous history – like we have in Canada and New Zealand. We recognise First Nations cultures and heritages, as a proud part of Australia’s shared national identity.
There are, and will be, different views on the proposed amendment to the Australian Constitution. At SAP, we make sure that all voices are being heard, and as such, we recognise that everyone is entitled to form their own view on the referendum question and constitutional proposal, and we respect those views and that right.
We support our people and our leaders to share and discuss their own viewpoints and perspectives internally and externally as they feel appropriate.
Our RAP Reflect allows us to reflect on where we have come from, and where we are going. SAP Australia supporting the First Nations Voice reiterates our position and commitment to reconciliation in Australia.
We hope that these conversations contribute to the growing action towards reconciliation between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider Australian community, building towards a more equitable and inclusive society for all.
We will be respectful, and thoughtful of all voices and we will continue to affirm the spirit and intent of the Uluru Statement from the Heart, no matter the outcome of the referendum.
