On Thursday, October 10th, SAP Netherlands celebrated Sustainability Day 2024, marking our commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable practices. Held in conjunction with ‘Dag van de Duurzaamheid’ (Sustainability Day in the Netherlands), the event brought our employees together for a day filled with interactive workshops, guest speakers, and activities highlighting SAP’s efforts to reduce its environmental impact.

At SAP, sustainability is more than a corporate objective—it’s a core value that shapes the way we operate and interact with the world. By hosting events like Sustainability Day, SAP empowers its employees to take ownership of our sustainability goals and equips them with the knowledge and tools to make a difference. This year’s event emphasized the critical role that every employee plays in supporting SAP’s mission to become more environmentally responsible, not only as a company but also as individuals contributing to society.

The day was filled with memorable highlights. The Immersive Jungle Cruise offered participants a visually engaging experience that showcased how SAP helps customers integrate sustainability into their operations, emphasizing the link between technology and environmental responsibility. On a more personal note, the ‘Pimp Your Cup’ session encouraged employees to design their own reusable coffee cups, reducing single-use products and promoting sustainable daily habits. Jessica van Beek from Bijenbaas captivated the audience with a session on sustainable gardening, where she shared practical tips for supporting bees and butterflies, inspiring employees to contribute to biodiversity in their own urban environments.

The ‘Boost Your Knowledge’ session, led by Arlette and Juriaan, provided employees with updates on SAP’s sustainability innovations in the Netherlands, equipping them with insights to share with customers and partners. Additionally, employees participated in a Cleaning Walk, where they helped clean up the area around the SAP office, contributing to the local community’s environmental health.

A virtual session on AI ethics, led by SAP’s Chief Sustainability Officer Daniel Schmid and Global Head of AI Walter Sun, explored the ethical challenges and opportunities AI presents for sustainability and human rights, sparking important discussions about the future of AI and its impact on the environment.

Sustainability Day 2024 showcased SAP’s continued dedication to environmental stewardship. By fostering a culture of sustainability and encouraging employees to actively engage in our environmental goals, SAP continues to lead by example, creating a positive impact both locally and globally.
