SAP Switzerland: Pioneering Sustainable Mobility

SAP NEWSBYTE – June 8, 2022 SAP Switzerland is doubling down on its commitment to sustainability: As the first company in Switzerland to do so, SAP is building on the Trafi for Business platform, which is based on Trafi’s innovative mobility-as-a-service solution. The related app gives companies an all-in-one mobility solution: public transportation, car-sharing, e-mopeds, e-scooters, stand-up paddling – employees can reserve, book, and pay for all means of transport with this app.

Behind the Times: Company Cars and Carpools

SAP Switzerland sees this novel mobility solution as a complement and alternative to the company car. “We’ve noticed that many employees feel that the company car is behind the times,” says Gabriel Wiskemann, HR Director at SAP Switzerland. “People who live in urban areas struggle to find a place to park, while alternative mobility options are at their doorstep. People who live in more rural areas and have to travel to city centers for customer appointments and meetings, where they often search in vain for a parking space. With the Trafi for Business mobility solution, we offer our employees a modern, forward-looking, and above all, sustainable solution for their individual mobility needs.”

Simple Booking and Payment for Many Means of Transport

According to an employee survey, this offer from SAP Switzerland attracted a lot of interest. In response, management decided to launch a pilot project, to test the solution itself and its acceptance among project participants over one year. Testers who were willing to completely bid goodbye to their company cars were quickly found. Employees who opt for the new mobility solution download the app to their smartphones and are given a mobility budget by SAP. App users can buy tickets for trains, buses, and trams; reserve cars with car-sharing providers; or find out the location of the next available e-scooter.

It’s just as easy for SAP to define and manage the mobility budgets of its employees. Trafi does the rest. The platform provides SAP with settlement information and analyses on a monthly basis. All data from Trafi for Business can converge in one place, providing a comprehensive, integrated mobility solution from a single source. Integration with SAP’s accounting or expense management system is also planned.

The Goal: Sustainable Mobility and High Flexibility

At launch time, SAP employees will initially have access to public transportation, e-scooters, mobility car sharing, Carvolution, and even stand-up paddling. And the solution is being expanded continually together with Trafi.

“The aim of this pilot project is to make the offering even more attractive for employees, so that it can and will be used on a broad scale,” says Thomas Schreitmüller, CFO at SAP Switzerland, confidently. “An important target for us is to help reduce our carbon footprint with the Trafi for Business app. That’s what this project is all about: sustainable mobility in an intact environment and a high degree of flexibility for our employees. We’re excited that SAP Switzerland is a pioneer here.”

Martynas Gudonavičius, CEO of Trafi, is also pleased: “We are delighted to have SAP as our first Trafi for Business customer, whose vision of corporate future aligns with ours, and lays in providing employees with mobility budgets to encourage carbon-neutrality and help commuters to make greener mobility choices.”

SAP’s Broad Sustainability Portfolio

As part of its sustainability strategy, SAP is developing a broad portfolio of solutions in four areas. One area focuses on climate change and the measures to mitigate the greenhouse effect and reduce carbon footprints. SAP Switzerland’s mobility initiative is part of these measures and solutions. The other focuses are:

  • Integration of ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) dimensions in financial reporting
  • Moving from supply chains and value chains to circular processes – to avoid waste, protect our planet, and preserve biodiversity on our planet
  • A commitment to equality and social justice in our own workforce and business networks as part of social responsibility
