SAP’s Chief Marketing and Solutions Officer and Member of the Executive Board, Julia White, shares her thoughts following the “Manage Disruption Through Responsible Value Chains” breakfast at the SAP House in Davos.
Julia explains how the pandemic caused global supply chain shocks, and regional conflict is causing new stresses. Companies can decrease risk, improve resilience, and enhance performance in this period of disruption by investing in responsible value chains. From a company’s operations through its extended supply chains, the entire value chain must be managed responsibly. In operations, companies should focus on ethical and diverse sourcing, labor and human rights, worker health and safety, inclusive workplaces, skills enhancement, carbon emissions management, and materials management. Responsible supply chains aim to efficiently procure and deliver necessary goods and services while putting a priority on protecting the health and well-being of employees and the environment. Effective use of technology, including cloud-based data management and business networks, can help companies gain the visibility needed to better manage value chain disruption through faster and more responsible business decisions. White adds anecdotes from her discussions with other business leaders at the World Economic Forum in the airline and tire industries.
