LONDON — SAP SE (NYSE: SAP) Barrick Gold Corporation (NYSE:ABX)(TSX:ABX) today announced that it has chosen SAP S/4HANA to future-proof its global business and growth ambitions.
As Barrick, strives to be the champion for long term value creation in the industry, the company has undertaken an aggressive growth strategy, including a series of acquisitions and joint ventures, which have expanded its global footprint in the key gold districts globally. Core to this strategy is the creation of an agile organisation, capable of seamlessly embedding the newly acquired companies into its infrastructure, while being able to identify those assets no longer required, to create a sustainably profitable long-term business.
When approaching SAP, its key business requirements were to minimise disruption and ensure a smooth transition when acquiring a new company, provide a single version of the truth – to enable fast and accurate decision making, reduce complexity and improve synergies across its operations, and create a platform for future growth.
Graham Shuttleworth, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Barrick, explained why Barrick selected SAP: “We need to be flexible and agile enough to grow our business but without building an empire to oversee this growth. Fundamental to our expansion is robust and future proof technology, capable of delivering real-time information that allows for effective cost management and the gaining of valuable business insight, all of which SAP will enable us to do.”
SAP’s introduction to Barrick commenced many years ago through one of its acquired companies – Randgold. On the back of this insight, Barrick has decided to implement SAP throughout the rest of the organization, starting with the newly formed Nevada Gold Mines Joint Venture. Barrick is confident that SAP is the right ERP partner for its business for many years to come.
Barrick selected SAP S/4HANA covering Finance, Capital, Supply Chain and Asset Management. The solution will cover all exploration, mines sites and joint ventures managed by Barrick in more than 15 countries.
Commenting on Barrick Gold’s selection of SAP, Frederic Chauvire, SVP, Global Partner Organisation, SAP EMEA North, said: “SAP is delivering tomorrow’s technology today, enabling ambitious, high achieving companies like Barrick to leverage forward-thinking, agile software from SAP to match the momentum required to thrive in the 2020’s.”
