Council becomes first UK public sector organisation to adopt RISE with SAP via Back Office Systems framework

LONDON, UK – SAP SE (NYSE: SAP) has today announced that Gloucestershire County Council (GCC) has become the first UK public sector organisation to select RISE with SAP to modernise its IT and technology infrastructure, accelerate its transformation into the cloud and deliver efficient services to its local residents.

From council services to fire and rescue, GCC is responsible for providing a range of services to a local population of around 630,000 residents. But with pressure on public services increasing as a result of the pandemic, it needed to reset its digital strategy to align with modern expectations of services.

Through RISE with SAP, GCC identified that SAP S/4HANA Cloud, SAP SuccessFactors and SAP Analytics Cloud, will best drive the transformation of the county council’s core capabilities, including finance, human resources, procurement and manager/employee self-service. The county council will be able to deliver automated and simplified business processes and real-time data insights that will modernise its existing services and enable timely, efficient support to residents.

What’s more, RISE with SAP is empowering the council to simplify its IT estate and fully embrace the benefits of the cloud. RISE with SAP will be adopted via the public sector Back Office Solutions framework; providing an approved modernisation process for other industry organisations to follow.

Steve Mawson, the Executive Director of Corporate Resources at Gloucestershire County Council said: “The pandemic has accelerated a need to digitalise our services, and we needed a framework that would help us adapt to this new way of working, as well as a solution that would allow us to use data and analytics to improve the services we provide. After considerable market evaluation, SAP stood out as not only meeting these requirements, but as offering the best value for money and providing the crucial future proofing element that we needed. As the first RISE with SAP customer in the UK public sector, we’re excited to be paving the way for other public sector organisations looking to modernise their services.”

Michiel Verhoeven, UK & Ireland Managing Director at SAP, added: “We’re proud of our long-standing relationship with Gloucestershire County Council. Offering better speed, increased flexibility and greater scalability, transferring to the cloud will prove hugely valuable to the public sector as it adjusts to a post-pandemic world. As other industries progress and embrace the cloud, it’s important that the public sector is not left out of this transformation. That’s why we’re delighted to extend our partnership with Gloucestershire RISE with SAP and see where we can take the council next.”
